| Your honest opinion of my story's protagonist? For awhile now, I've been trying to write this book. Even though I never managed to complete chapter one, I was so picky about my initial work I kept just revising what little I had written over and over again, (three times actually). Each time it sounded better, but right when I started to really get into it, my main character's personality began to .. warp into something completely different from what I had originally intended. I realized it was because of the rough times I was going through.. I was so depressed and lonely, my protagonist began to act emotionless and bitter. I miss the way she was before. So innocent, but brave. Carefree, but determined to fight for the good side. T_T Now I can't write about her without her acting all quiet and sad, though sharp-witted. If she's going to be that way, the story's going to come out completely different! So, I just want to know how the majority of readers would receive a character like her. Do you think this sounds like an annoying person, or someone you like and/or would like to meet in real life? Currently, this is how I keep writing her: She starts off as an 8th grader, still in the jr. high, who is teased a lot by her classmates because she acts so shy and doesn't ever start conversations. She doesn't say much back to them when they pick on her, despite being really smart and constantly thinking up comebacks in italics.. When she is physically attacked, she doesn't fight back despite having freakish reflexes and knowing martial arts. Most of the time she acts like she's emotionally scarred for life, and has some ocd tendencies.. :/ She also has a huge crush on some guy, and as a result she hates him, (because of the way he makes her feel). She never talks to him, and she tries to avoid him as much as she can so he will never find out about her feelings for him. I'm thinking about making her an albino, but I don't want to be too dramatic because I'm trying to keep this as realistic as possible. XD Anyway, she acts gloomy, hardly ever smiles, and enjoys watching people like a creepy voyeur.. What teen girl acts like this!? Except me I mean..... | Serious answers only please. I think my friend is a paedophile and need some advice.? I had a friend to stay with me for a few weeks because he had nowhere to go. He left this afternoon. Last night he stayed up later than I did, as he did a few times during his stay. He was on the internet on my laptop when I went to bed, playing poker and talking to people on MSN. Tonight I was on the laptop and typed in www.google in the web address bar when the addresses of previous searches came up below, which went something like www.google.co.uk/ref.fhr34/blah/blah.sea… There where about 10/15 searches like this, including the words Youngest, Pre-teen, School and Teenie. Barely legal made an appearance too, but I'm assuming these are 16 year old girls. Obviously when I read Pre-teen the alarm bells started going off. I am right to belive a preteen is somewhere between 8 and 12 years old. Obviously this is paedophilia. What I have stupidly done is clicked the delete browsing history button and thus lost all the evidence. If anyone knows how to recover this then please let me know, the computer is running with Windows Vista. I am going to contact the Police, and please don't give me grief about this because I'm not very f****ing happy about it myself. What do you think the police will actually do about this? | If you really believe he his a paedohile and want to have the history checked on your computer then ring the police. There are ways of checking a PC of all records nothing is ever truly deleted, that's how they catch many paedophile scum. Just ring them for advice for a start, you don't have to give many details. It's better to be safe than sorry, you might save a guy from having their life ruined. To the person above; there will be ways to prove that her friend was online. For a start he may have signed into MSN or an online poker site with his e-mail/password (she mentioned he used these sites). |
| What were the statutory rape laws like before the 1970s? fyi I just turned 17 a couple days ago & I live in Texas. I heard that the current statutory rape laws were created in the 70s to protect little girls from getting abused by men. But those laws really backfired as not only the no good pedophiles they were intended to stop were getting arrested, but women & guyren were also getting arrested. Now I in general oppose those laws. I understand protecting little guys from grown men but arresting women for having sex with teenage guys & arresting older teens for being with younger teens is just despicable. I am against pedophilia even though I've seen some young girls that I've found attractive. But I don't think hebephilia & ephebophilia should be treated the same way. Now you see back then if you were put on the sex offender registry you really were a no good sex offender, but now they're putting everybody on there. I don't even think that registry means anything anymore. Now they're putting age sexters, voyeurs, exhibitionists, & cradle robbers on it. I really think we need to reform these laws because they are destroying the lives of people who don't deserve it & they are spreading fear & terror into the hearts of sexually curious teens. It is because of these laws that people are scared to even judge a minor's looks. They make people like me view the police & law enforcement as inhuman monsters instead of heroes that they were intended to be. I'm wondering if I might support the way these laws used to be. So I would like to learn how it was before all this draconian/totalitarian bullcrap. What were these laws like before? |
| I think you're mistaken, there has certainly been a gradual uptrend in the age of consent, with lowering it almost unheard of, but the biggest change was around 1900, not 1970. Assuming we're talking about the US that is, I don't really know about other countries, with the exception of Canada which did raise it from 14 to 16 quite recently. Sex offender registries are a more recent invention. Although this too predates 1970, they have been greatly expanded in the last 20 years or so. So I'm not sure where you got the impression this changed in 1970s. The only related change in law that comes to mind is that guy pornography was outlawed in the later 1970s. It might come as a surprise to many people that this was so recent, but the reason is that all pornography had been illegal up until a few years prior. That did mean however that guy pornography was legal for a good part of the 70s. |

| In Texas if you are within two years of age you can have sex with an age partner and it is not illegal. The sentencing laws are much easier now, where as, in the 60s and 70s some men were sentenced to 50 years for having sex with an under age girl. The laws today are much more lenient than before. |
